Google engineer has indicated on a bug ticket that Xbox One Bluetooth controllers will soon be compatible with Android 9.0 Pie smartphones. It is about time.

While it’s extremely easy to pair a PS4 controller with an Android smartphone, this is still not possible with an Xbox One controller. This will soon be fixed, at least on some Xbox One controllers. Last week, a Google engineer has indeed indicated that the controllers of Xbox One S will now be correctly recognized and supported by smartphones installed Android 9.0 Pie. At least in future versions of Android 9.0 Pie, since the correction of the bug is not yet effective.
The first Xbox controller to support Bluetooth
However, this compatibility only applies to Xbox One S controllers. Why? Simply because the joysticks of the small console of Microsoft are the first to benefit from a connection in Bluetooth. Previously, Xbox One wireless controllers connected to the console via a proprietary wireless protocol. And if the controllers of Xbox One S were well recognized by Android, it was often impossible to make it work properly in games. which is now fixed.
Note also that the correction of this bug occurs a few days after the arrival of Fortnite on Android. Coincidence? I do not think so.
