John Ternus has stepped up as Apple’s new chief executive officer, stepping into the shoes of Tim Cook following his decade-and-a-half run at the top.
Previously leading Hardware Engineering as senior vice president, Ternus assumes leadership at a pivotal juncture for the tech giant. Come September 9, Apple will hold its signature iPhone showcase, heavily anticipated to feature the debut of the brand’s inaugural foldable iPhone. Furthermore, Apple is poised to expand the availability of its upgraded Siri intelligence features, presenting a prime chance to elevate Siri so it can compete directly with leading conversational AIs like Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
“We have a huge launch next week that’s going to be phenomenal,” Ternus wrote in a memo to staff on Tuesday, according to Bloomberg. “I’m just as excited about what lies beyond that, including the incredible products already in the works and the ones we haven’t even imagined yet that we’ll dream up and create together.”
Word on the street is that Apple has multiple cutting-edge devices in development, such as camera-equipped AirPods, smart glasses, and a touchscreen laptop.
“I take enormous comfort in handing the helm to someone as brilliant and wonderful and capable as John,” Tim Cook wrote to staff on his last day as CEO. “Few people understand what it takes to build products that change the world the way John does and I could not be more excited for his leadership.”
