After years of anticipation, the next-generation Tesla Roadster could soon make its official debut.
On Saturday, the EV maker shared a brief update on X stating “Go for launch,” accompanied by an image highlighting the date “10.01”—signaling an October 1 launch event for the revamped sports car. Visual cues in the post also appear to nod toward the long-promised SpaceX cold gas thrusters, an add-on feature designed to give the vehicle brief levitation or flight capabilities.
Originally unveiled back in November 2017, Tesla’s flagship EV has faced numerous delays over the years. The extended timeline even sparked a public exchange on social media between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman last year, in which Altman noted that waiting 7.5 years for his $50,000 deposit felt extraordinarily long, though Musk claimed the money had already been refunded.
According to a recent report from The Information, Tesla scrapped the original 2017 prototype entirely in favor of a brand-new design set to be revealed imminently.
Musk has admitted in the past that following this upcoming presentation, commercial production of the Roadster will still remain 12 to 18 months away.
