X Creator Payouts: 5 Essential Tips for X Money

Elon Musk’s social platform X announced on Wednesday that, starting today, all creator earnings in the United States will be processed exclusively through the platform’s native financial tool, X Money.

As detailed in an update published on X, this transition affects distributions from both the Original Content Rewards Program and user subscriptions stated the company.

The primary advantage of this updated payment infrastructure is real-time disbursement. Content creators no longer have to wait for billing periods to close or hit a minimum earnings threshold to withdraw their funds. Official X documentation states that previously, funds were distributed bi-weekly with a $30 minimum payout requirement.

Even so, the phrasing of the announcement strongly implies that alternative cash-out methods have been eliminated. This means X is effectively mandating the use of X Money for domestic creators, phasing out the previous Stripe-backed payout system Stripe.

When contacted for further details, an X spokesperson confirmed that this migration is mandatory for U.S.-based users, whereas international creators will continue using Stripe.

This adjustment comes on the heels of other recent overhauls to X’s monetization initiatives. On September 7, the platform will officially sunset its Creator Revenue Sharing Program, which closed its doors to new applicants last month. Instead, participants are being migrated to the Original Content Rewards Program, which naturally places a greater emphasis on authentic, original material.

The platform’s new payments service, X Money, first began rolling out support for creator disbursements earlier this month. Formed as part of Musk’s grand vision to transform X into an “everything app,” the financial product offers perks such as a debit card with 3% cash back, instant transfers, and fee-free ATM access, alongside other digital banking tools. It is important to note that X Money is not technically a bank; rather, user funds are safeguarded through FDIC-insured accounts at Cross River Bank.

Furthermore, X announced that these creator earnings will qualify toward the direct deposit criteria required to unlock higher annual percentage yields (APY) on X Money. According to the service’s website, X Premium subscribers currently enjoy an enhanced yield of 6%, compared to the standard 4% offering.

Additionally, X will issue 1099-NEC tax forms to individual creators receiving payouts. For registered LLCs, the company will gather W-9 tax documentation to guarantee accurate reporting, the organization noted.

This report was updated post-publication to incorporate a statement from X.
